p.2 #1What’s a realistic expectation of the IBIS in the X-T5?

To me that is roughly 3 stops IBIS Dan. Same with my C/V 27mm f2. 1/40>1/20>1/10>1/5.

To expand on that a bit:

Don’t take that guesstimate for an objective fact leading to a 3-stop improvement assumption. I think I mentioned that I’d actually have to go look through a bunch of photos to see what has and hasn’t worked and where my real boundary is.

I know I’ve gone longer — at least a half second — with decent enough results to use.

Handholding a non-IS camera at 1/30 second (with a “normal” focal length lens) does not generally lead to 100% keepers — but the rate is high enough that if I had no choice I’d go ahead and do it.

I think of those “X-stops of stabilization” claims as being sort of like MPG and EV range claims...and camera DR and noise claims. Yes, in some controlled tests with a specific set of test parameters the thing meets some defined percentage of successful results. But are you going to get that MPG, range, DR, NR, or IS in the real world? I wouldn’t count on it!

But having said that, the real story is that IS (whether the in-lens type or IBIS) turns out to be very useful and effective in a whole bunch of real world scenarios. We aren’t quite to where it on all cameras yet, but think that weill be the expectation before long.
