Ten years ago this August I spent five nights camping near Hallo Bay on Katmai. We had numerous bears pass remarkably close to us but I never felt really threatened. They mostly seemed indifferent. One evening while out for a walk I spotted a bear before my guide saw him which was unusual. I remember saying; "Lance, bear, and this one looks different." We only spotted him this one time in six days.
