p.1 #1 · Cony Lake Drainage - RMNP

My brother and I hiked to Cony Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park's Wild Basin area this weekend. Long day, boots on trail at 0626, back to the car by headlamp at 2116. I'm still very sore!

This was the last drainage in Wild Basin that I had not explored. Not sure when I'll do this hike again, primarily due to the distance involved. Depending on which website/report you look at, it's a round trip mileage of anywhere from 17.2-18.4 miles, and 3000-4000 feet of gain.

On approach to Upper Hutcheson Lake. Didn't take any pictures of the lakes on the lead-up to this because the sky was pure blue, and I figured I could catch photos with clouds on the way down.

Upper Hutcheson at shoreline. From here, it took about an hour to get to Cony Lake, half a mile as the crow flies, because it's all up talus and trying to dodge around bushes and krummholz.

Cony Lake at shoreline.

Vertical this time.

Near-180 pano. Cony sits in a glacially carved amphitheater, and it felt tough to capture that feeling.

Middle Hutcheson Lake, on the way down.

Pear Lake.

Beautiful images! That blue sky dispels the impression of continuous wildfire smoke!
