p.1 #1 · Anyone still use the RX100 compact

Hi first post here, I normally post in the Canon section but I have also been using an RX100 mk 1 for years
Its a very nice pocket camera, I prefer it to using my iPhone
My main use is pretty niche, band/concert photography as here in the UK security won’t let you in with a camera they class as ‘professional’ , has a removable lens , I just keep the little Sony in my pocket and have never had issues
Can get pretty good results even at high ISO if I shoot in raw and process in DXO photolab 8
Have looked for something newer but theres not much choice at least new with a similar quality sensor and a range from wide to 100mm equivalent

I still use mine on occasion, and am surprised at how good the images are for the size of the camera. The corners are soft at 28mm and 35mm equivalent, but only slightly more than a lightweight full frame zoom like the pz 28-60. I should really start carrying it with me more consistently. Does anyone know if the optics improved on any of the later versions, especially the corners on wide settings?

I have an underwater housing for my RX100ii and use it for diving mostly, or beach photos. Very good image quality for the size. My iPhone has better video at this point, but the 1” sensor is still better for stills overall.

My daily carry is the Leica Q3M so I always have my somewhat battered RX100vii in the bag. It really is still a pocket rocket and I would probably even buy an updated version if one was ever released. There really is nothing quite like it

I have a RX100mk1 that has been my mobile sidekick since 2013 when I bought it. But since the autumn, I have gone over to a iPhone 17 Pro Max and I think it is good enough for daily use so my RX100 stays at home.

Comparing the iPhone and the RX100 is not easy since it depends on lighting conditions, focal lenght etc.

If a new RX100 comes out I might get it, depends on what it delivers.

I use an RX100V as a webcam for Zoom meetings with my workshop clients.

I recently used it on assignment for National Geographic. For the assignment, I primarily used the camera in a dive housing while shooting from an 18-foot oar boat, rafting the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Its compact size and lighter weight (compared to an a1 or a7 series camera) made it easier to handle in rough rapids.

My editor and I were both happy with the quality of the images made with the RX100V.

I had the rx100m3 but sold it sometime ago. I stopped or haven't used it because I wasn't too keen on the IQ and wanted more. It was good for what it was, but I ended up just using my a7x body and lighter lens if I wanted to go light. I had some regret when I did but now I'm not even considering it. Current and new phones fill the role just fine and it's always with me.

My daughter has had one for 13 years and still uses it. But phones are much improved too and sort of make the RX100s less "necessary" as an option for smaller compared to the dslrs of then or mirrorless now.
