Black terns - feeding time!
p.1 #1Black terns - feeding time!
Hey!
Please take a look at my latest shots of a black tern. This was my first time photographing them—just one fleeting evening with the very last tiny chick. All the others were fully grown and getting ready to move from these safe, boggy waters to places richer in food. I hope to revisit this spot, or find new ones, next year. What I like most about wildlife photography is revisiting places and watching wildlife from the front row while taking pictures. Even though I didn't get a second chance, I'm surprised by the results on the first go. The chick gave us an hour, sitting comfortably hidden behind a leaf (luckily, on the right side of it!), so I just had to press the shutter—I ended up with 4 or 5 almost identical feeding scenes—before it decided to go back to the nest and hide under its parent's feathers.
One shot is all it takes! 💯 The difference between getting one great photo and going home empty-handed is everything. We only had a brief moment with the Black terns as they were feeding over the boggy waters. In that quick window, we managed to get just one good shot—but it’s one we’re really proud of! 🖤🌾 We wish we could have stayed longer to watch them hunt and explore their wetland home. At the end of the day, capturing these split-second moments and spending time outdoors in nature is what we love most. 🍃✨

I have a weak spot for soft pastels ... so I try to develop my photos that way.
