Do you genuinely enjoy working with the 35mm focal length?
For me, 35mm often feels marginally too short. Yet indoors, where space is constrained and the next photographic position cannot be anticipated or controlled, a 50mm lens can become too narrow and compositionally restrictive.
Considering total optical performance, easy to use, fun to use, and the more elusive question of photographic pleasure of the big other, which 35mm lens would you choose?
I think the best 35 for Sony is the 1.4 GM, followed by the Viltrox LAB. The Viltrox 35 EVO is smaller and excellent optically.
However like you, I often find 35 frequently too short or too long. As such, and specifically for travel, I have gone to small 26mm Viltrox EVO and 50mm Viltrox AIR. Combined they take up less space than either the GM or LAB, and combined weigh about what the 35 EVO weighs.

I'll piggy back on this---I hope I don't hijack this thread but I think I am still on point. Travelling to Tokyo in October and I'm prepared to go with just one lens---Viltrox 35/1.2 LAB N and my A7V with the vertical grip. I'll take the Godox 1VMidS as well. Golden hour. Then model threw me a curve, she wants some heads shots too (although the samples she sent me are all heads and shoulders and half-body shots, not tight portraits). At first I said shoot---I might be forced to bring my Batis 85/1.8 which would make my bag heavier. However after I've seen shots with my Viltrox, I can just crop it. With any 35mm though, you can't really be too close to the subject otherwise the face will be distorted. I know I can fix that on DxOViewPoint 5 but I rather not.
