p.1 #1 · Visit to the Taos Pueblo with the SL3 and SL 28-70 f/2.8

Drove over to Taos this weekend and visited the Pueblo for the first time. I feel bad it's taken me nearly 10 years of living in NM to finally visit it.

Took the new-to-me SL 28-70 f/2.8 to try it out. It felt exceedingly awkward to use a standard zoom again after so many years of just shooting primes and only using zooms for telephoto shots. I'm not sure why, but it felt more restrictive rather than the expected feeling of being more versatile. I did like its small size. I think a 35 f/1.4 or f/2 prime and a 70-200 f/2.8 would have been a better combination. Regardless, I did feel like the lens performed well.

What didn't perform well was the SL3's lack of EFCS, which meant the occasional shutter shock even at standard focal lengths. Thankfully, I took several shots of each scene. Next time, I'll use the electronic shutter for still subjects like this. It's insanity that Leica has not added EFCS to their lineup of cameras via firmware. Shame! (Game of Thrones reference)

Why the SL 28-70 and not the Sigma version? For the weather sealing. Not sure why Sigma didn't make a fully weather sealed version of this lens like they did with the 24-70 f/2.8. I almost got the Sigma 28-105 f/2.8 instead, but I didn't because 1) it's a large lens and 2) by the time I need 105mm, I would rather be shooting a 70-200 or 100-400, which are also large. So one of those will be next.

All these were processed to mimic a red filter on b&w film except where noted. All shots except the color one have vignette added because the C1/Leica profile removes it. Later when I have more time, I'll see if the 28-70 is listed separately in C1 so I can lose the vignette correction but keep the distortion correction.
