p.1 #1 · Maui Whale watching/photographing info.

Any recommended whale watching outfits and gear? Will be on Maui the first week of February, 2027. Have not been on the smaller raft type watching tours before. 200-400mm too much? 70-200mm preferred? Any insight appreciated.

Good time to be on Maui in February! I have been there many times. A 200-400mm may be too long when on a boat but ok on land because you never are quite sure where they will pop up. I have done several boat trips on Maui my favorite is SailTrilogy.com. I am going back to Maui next month, no whales this time of year but plenty to see.

You have many options for seeing whales, shore, catamaran and rafts. You are most maneuverable on a catamaran but closer to the water on a raft. I often do both, I like doing snorkeling trips around Maui. Where will you be staying? Some trips load from Kaanapali, others from Malaea Harbor, and now Lahaina again a few years after the fire.
