This bush is about 20 years old. Started out as a Mothers Day flower pot gift....had to plant elsewhere after a few years because it started to expand rapidly!
Today it stands about 5 feet...and is about 3-4ft in diameter.
The "fog" is the lens going from an ac house to a very humid, hot day.,
Dan
I don't think I've seen one of those Dan. Beautiful bloom and the fogged lens gives it an air of atmosphere. Had that happen in Hawaii and I was freaking out when I got to Waimea Gardens, only to get one of my best ever shots once it cleared!

Greg
Truthfully Greg, I had to use a "google plant id finder" to get its name.
I had never seen 1 before either and never have seen one since. They only flower for a few weeks then gone.
Extremely "top heavy" and must be staked for support or the tender stems break.
I am NOT happy with how the image is turning out. Something just missing.......the flower reminds me of that "Hershey kiss" or the holiday cookie with a Hershey kiss in the center.

THANKLS!

Interesting Dan. I'll be in Florida in a couple of weeks at the Villages for a lifestyle visit, and according to Google, they might be in bloom if I can find any. I'll keep a lookout.

These are incredible, had never seen them
Welcome!!!!!!!
I had always seen ads for "St Johns wort" but NEVER imagined it looked like this!
It started out as a small potted plant located near my front "stoop". About 5 years later, it had overtaken the stoop, sidewalk and creeping upon my front porch.....
Moved it to it's own space in a rear yard garden...20+ years later it is a huge flowering shrub that only has these blooms for a few weeks.
It is very "top heavy" and the stalks are tender and I have to support them or they will snap.
Love your "handle"....I have lived in farmland all my life!
Thanks again!

What a bush with magnificent colors; great detail in the photo. Dan. Thanks for posting!
Thank you Tom!
I am not happy with the results.
I am trying to obtain that glossy sheen that many members have on their images..it has been a work in progress.
Thanks again!
Dan
PS The bumble bees go into a "feeding frenzy" when the flowers are out!
Hundreds, zooming all around, their legs so loaded with yellow pollen that they can't fly far without stopping to rest.
I have even seen a few fall out of the air because the "pollen sacks" on their legs are so full! They are also very tame...tame in the fact that if 1 does fall to the ground, I can pick it up without it stinging me!

Dan: One of the side benefits of nature photography is we get to see/touch reactions in nature as you did with the bees. How lucky are we?
I could NOT agree more Tom! Thanks!!!!
And we get to immortalize Nature with our cameras!
Thanks!
