You know, I did notice a surge in mental acuity and awareness after I got rid of my EF equipment!

That depends on the lens. The EF 500/4 IS II abounds with optical acuity. Mental acuity depends more on Starbucks.

The 100-400 IS interests me because I still use my Canon EF's 90%..
If you are serious about "selling" that lens, PM me....I have friends in NYC, and they are all FM members, that can check it out for me and pay you...

I thought that Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8L was a highly praised lens even though I never had one

I really liked the 17-35 f/2.8L. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought a 2nd one recently. It's just not as sharp as the newer UWA zooms.

I know that many people tend to disregard older versions of lenses because they're less sharp or have fewer features, but that usually means that I can get them for a good price, now. I'll rue the day that I can no longer find batteries for my 5D III.

When the batteries are no longer available, you "improvise, adapt, overcome"...a backpack with cables to the battery terminals would work! ...

I have a 1997 500mm EF Canon..It is tack sharp!

It's going to be a LONG time before there aren't batteries available for a 5D III. You can still get replacement BP-511's today from third party makers, and the last camera that used that battery was the 50D in 2008. Considering the LP-E6 form factor is still used today on cameras like the R5 II and R6 III, and even the latest LP-E6P is compatible with the 5D III, I would imagine you'll be able to get LP-E6 batteries, new, for at least another 15-20 years, and likely longer. There are SO many cameras that use that battery (Every 5D from the 5D II, every XXD from the 60D through the 90D, The 6D and 7D cameras, every R6 and R5 series mirrorless body and the R7...26 total cameras) that they'll be making replacements for ages.

I just used two new LP-E6P batteries in a 5D III yesterday. No FW is needed for it.
I forgot how nicely made that camera was, and somehow it's in nicer shape than any of my R series. The ergonomics were cleaner and better back then, before wimpiness set in.

My almost 24 year old Sony F-717 has the original battery and still holds a small charge. Replacement batteries are easily available. Yeah, replacements will be around for many years

Oh my…
I recently scored the 300X film body, mint, boxed with all its accessories including its original lens … £22!!! Then found the somewhat scarce grip bp220

The 300X was canons very last analogue era body.
I wanted to compare it with canons first consumer dslr…the 300D

Just snagged a very clean example boxed .. £15, then spotted its Grip £10

So for less than £60 I’ve aquired canons last analogue era and their first digital era body’s. I’m intending to mount 40stm & 24stm primes to both and see how they compare.

For what little my take is worth: The 24-70L is nice, the 50/1.8 is a keeper if it's the metal mount, the rest I don't have any strong feelings about. Except the 100-400L. I did a lot of cool things with that lens. But I hate hate hate it.
