I am planning my first photography trip to Norway for July/August 2027 and would really appreciate advice from those who have actually photographed these areas.
A little about my style:
* Landscape photography is the primary purpose of the trip.
* I enjoy scenic drives, roadside compositions and accessible viewpoints.
* I am not a hiker, so I am not planning to photograph from locations that require long hikes (Reinebringen, Ryten, Saksa, etc.).
* I will happily do short walks and easy viewpoints.
* Drone photography is not part of the plan.
After a lot of research, I have narrowed the trip to two regions, though I have not booked anything yet and fully open to receive suggestions:
I am trying to avoid the common mistake of spending time photographing locations that end up producing very similar images.
1. Looking only from a landscape photography perspective, are there locations on my list that become repetitive if I am not hiking?
2. If you had to remove one stop because it doesn't produce enough unique images compared with the driving required, what would you remove?
3. Conversely, is there one location (or scenic road) that many first-time visitors overlook but you think is photographically exceptional?
4. If you had roughly **10 days on the ground**, would you spend:
* more time in the Northwest Fjords, or
* more time in Lofoten?
5. I see many recommendations for spending three or more full days in Lofoten. For someone who is not hiking, does the third day usually lead to significantly different compositions, or is it mainly valuable as weather insurance?
Thanks in advance. I would really appreciate hearing from who have spent time in these areas and can comment and advice.
We all have different ideas and experiences, so you can take this with a grain of salt...
I have been to Norway once, spending 2 full weeks in Lofoten. Admittedly this was during the winter and I was trying to maximize my chances of aurora and as weather insurance. I would have no problems at all filling 3 full days there - or even 3 full weeks. Some thoughts based on your list:
Reine, Hamnøy, and Sakrisøy are practically walking distance apart (if you liked walking). That does mean it is easy to explore them quickly and find your favorite spots to take advantage of the light. Red buildings in Hamnoy, Yellow in Sakrisoy, etc.
I thought Nusfjord was interesting but didn't find Henningsvær worth the drive. Neat location though.
One of my favorite spots was Vareid. The rocks on the coast make a nice foreground for the mountains across the water and the conditions change regularly based on tides. I'd also recommend spending some time at Skagsanden near Flakstad and Uttakleiv and the surrounding beaches north of Leknes.
