p.1 #1Are there short C stand grip arms?
I'm looking for a 6"-12" grip arm for a C Stand.

Does such a thing exist?

I have seen 20" but no shorter. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish but maybe a double or triple header baby arm would work for you or a side arm?

I think you're looking for either a Cardellini XXL or a Magic Arm, really.

I’m looking for something to go into a clamp so I can have an overhead sturdy rig for a camera.

He sells them via the shop on his website. I’d post a direct link, but I couldn’t get it to work here for some reason.

Damn that is brilliant idea, and so reasonably priced at $38. If it had a manfrotto label on it, it'd probably cost 4 times that. https://www.fainimade.com/product/tripod-head-to-grip-head-adapter/2RWHFAQQBRZO5K4CIOPPCJI6?cs=true&cst=custom

I usually just use a baby ball head adapter like this, paired with a small ball-head: https://kupogrip.com/kupo-baby-ball-head-adapter/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17347497074&gbraid=0AAAAADv_tm7ZyIQfKrxo56RgxhDp9ALt-&gclid=CjwKCAjw6rfSBhAqEiwA_yocpn1hnLokme74jWFWcUm6f9bWepl3bk_8V9jG8OHA-VVTfdQsvnEQlxoC_10QAvD_BwE

In situations where I need to mount a camera at the end of a superboom, it works pretty well as long as it's only a single camera and not much else. Sometimes I need to rig two cameras together though on the same pin, and it is not at all up for the task, because if the weight isn't evenly balanced the rig can spin a bit.

Thanks for posting!

There are better ways to rig an overhead camera if the goal is stability and safety especially if you only need 6-12 inches. C-stand grip arms induce vibrations every time to touch the camera, these can take 30-45 seconds to calm down.

The Manfrotto 131D side arm is specifically designed to attach to your tripod centre column and provide two additional tripod head mounting surfaces with almost two feet of offset.

I have that side arm, well, my wife does. Installed on a MASSIVE tripod. It’s good for the job but requires said MASSIVE tripod for true overheads, which of course, in turn, requires a large footprint, and doesn’t travel easily.

I have the black version of that arm, I specialize in Food images and it comes in handy on overhead shots. I also have a lightweight tripod Carbonone from Manfrotto that I can put the center post in a horizontal position.

With counter weights and judicious leg extensions a medium sized tripod like the Manfrotto ART: 055 can handle this side arm, done it a few times for location work. In the studio I use my Manfrotto ART: 161 tripod with is a beast.

I built a DIY ceiling lighting support grid in my studio from 1 X 1 X1/4 steel angle that is about 4" below the ceiling. It's mostly used to hang LED light panels, etc. for video work, but I had a request from a friend to digitize about 1,700 movie theater posters (like they put in the "coming attraction" shadow boxes outside the theaters. I used one of my tripods that has a center column with a 1/4-20 stud on the bottom end. An Electrician's Beam Clamp (small cast C-Clamp of sorts with two 1/4-20 threaded holes. I hung the tripod upside down to the angle of the support grid using one of these clamps and then extended the tripod legs up against the ceiling. Then attached the camera to the tripod head at the now "bottom" of the tripod, angled the camera lens straight down and taped corner markings for the posters on the studio floor. Four of the LED light panels were then positioned and aimed at the first poster and checked with a few test shots. With an assistant to change the posters between shots and me to take the shots with a wireless shutter trigger and watch for problems, the shoot went very well and fast. Sometimes in photography, it's necessary to "Think Outside The Photography Box", and this was one of them for me.

The photos show these Electricians Beam Clamps and the fittings that I add to use them with my ceiling grid. The second shot is of the Ceiling Lighting Support Grid. Not found yet is a shot of the tripod hanging upside down from the grid.

I have several 9" long Baby Pins, which are basically just very short arms for C-Stands. I think they came through Adorama. 9" is what I was looking for, but there may have been longer and shorter. It's been several years since I bought them.

I was pushing the limits of my low studio shooting room height and trying to get a couple of soft boxes and studio strobes really close to the studio 8' ceiling. These and some Godox MS300 strobes, which are shorter than all of my other studio strobes managed to do what I needed. I think they've been on the shelf since then. No, I don't want to part with them, since I have a feeling that studio my studio height will come back and bite me again. I think Adorama in NYC can help you though.
