I thought it was a hawk which are dime a dozen around here, but took the photos anyway. To my surprise and delight, it was a bald eagle, not frequently seen at our little suburban lake, and first time for me. It was even more fascinating to see a tiny spec following, or, perhaps, chasing, this massive, majestic bird. Not the greatest quality due to running out of reach and daylight.

Those RWBB shore are determined to defend their nests. I have a photo of one riding the back of an eagle and pecking it's neck.

I was wondering if it was red wing black bird (now, who picked that name??), but it was hard to tell at that distance. Thanks for confirming. Don't mess with a mother!

I assumed it was a mother since, as per my quick read, only mothers sit on nests. But I see what you mean now - coloring is different. So, "don't mess with parents!"
