Nickerson Beach on Long Island's South Shore is home to one of the worlds largest Black Skimmer colonies with about 600 mating pairs. They are a rather unusual bird that nests along with Common Terns sometimes side by side. It's quite a site when all of them and the thousands of turns take to the air at once as a defensive move to confuse attackers. In this set I'll share photos of the Black Skimmers in the nesting area and over the Atlantic.
