Also, the extra reach with the RX10 would be useful, but I am wondering if the IQ would seem ok after using the A7R series. For windsurfing photos, I usually wouldn’t print larger than 8x10, so don’t need a lot of resolution but as we know the larger sensors just have a different (better) look.
I would think you'd get some nice results. As you say, the reach is a high point.
Here's an old shot from my RX10iii at 600mm (equiv). Some atmospherics at play, but still reasonable quality.

Terribly Late RX10IV BIF Impressions:
In 2017, evaluated both RX10IV and FE 100-400 (even if I had no mirrorless FF back then). I was able to do five mostly BIF sessions with the RX10IV and more with the FE 100-400. Unfortunately I got laid off (manufacturing eng'g job went to China) and could only allocate funds for one item. I decided to keep the lens for future needs. The RX10IV was planned for business/leisure travels with birding capability. Now fully retired and getting older, I am curious on what the upcoming RX10 would bring and maybe the previous plan could be reviewed again.
To sum it up, the RX10IV was good enough for BIFs and could take small and above sized BIF subjects. As I am still reviewing samples taken during those time, can't help but process some samples. Samples were all from JPG as I was into it 99% of the time (dictated by some viewing/processing laziness). Got back into RAW+JPG only when I finally joined the mirrorless FF a few years back.
For big and slow fliers as above, no issue as details were easily captured. Issue so far was on the background - unwanted details captured by the small sensor. Need to do PS (or equivalent) blurring steps.
Background here was blurred (just basic setup at PS - select subject, inverse, use blur gallery)
Also capable of capturing small to medium subject BIFs. Same issue on the background - PS steps or against the sky or very distant land mass to minimize effect.
For small birds, could find so far flock/group flights only. Still reviewing files if individual small birds BIFs were luckily captured.
Merging a 20.1MP 1" stacked sensor, expansive zoom range, intelligent autofocus, and professional video and photo tools in a single versatile body, the Sony RX10 V Digital Camera is an all-in-one powerhouse. Designed for creators who need to work quickly without switching lenses, the camera pairs a 24-600mm (35mm equivalent) Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens with the AI-powered BIONZ XR processing engine. Whether capturing fast-paced action, sweeping landscapes, distant wildlife, or close-up macro shots, RX10 V delivers consistent, cinematic image quality with uncropped 4K60 video and blackout-free continuous shooting up to 30 fps. Its deep-learning AI processing unit provides advanced subject recognition and active stabilization for reliable automatic focus and framing, making it an exceptional asset for solo creators."
I'm pretty excited that Sony has updated the RX10 line. It gives hope that the RX100 will be updated in the near future.
It's a little disappointing that Sony didn't develop a new 1" sensor. I wonder if the RX10 V is using the RX10 IV's sensor or if it's using the RX100 VII's sensor?
All in all, I think I'll get the V. I've said on DPR and on FM in the last few years that I'll upgrade to a V if it gets USB-C, better 4K video, and the latest AI-AF features. Sony may have read my posts and did the bare minimum?!
They look AMAZING but I wonder how much processing was done. If RX10 V can really produce such stunning results then I am ready to consolidate my kit to one camera
As per Gordon's review, sensor and lens are exactly the same. Which is kinda disappointing as I was hoping that Sony would have made few advancements in 7 years that they could have incorporated.

I see some things that make me wonder if Mr. Galer is still using Topaz...these are very clearly heavily worked on in post.
I’m mixed. Disappointed they didn’t use their own new sensor tech. Wish it had pre-capture. Happy you can upload and embed LUTs. Definitely glad for the upgraded battery life and EVF.
That said, as a secondary camera, I can more easily see myself looking for a used RX10 IV, if the prices become sane again. The first time I bought one, I paid $900. 🤡
