This hurts. The OG Leica Q. The lens is magnificent. The EVF is comfortable and nice, the back screen even better. The AF is fast and accurate (no, not Sony blazing focused before you even turn the camera on fast, that’s not what this is for. This isn’t a CGI summer blockbuster, it’s an introspective indy film shot on old Czech film stock. The leaf shutter is whisper quiet. They got the OG Q right the first time. But it makes terrible coffee. And it can’t coordinate your work schedule with your Roomba or tell you the five best pilgrim hostels on the Camino. It has no built-in GLP-1 filter, but it does have a world-class 28mm lens and an excellent full-frame sensor.
This one is silver. I bought it used from a shop in Utah. It has some battle scars that predate our time together, but I like my gear a little tested and this one has been. Mostly you can see this on the LCD glass which has some scratches that you don’t see when the LCD is on. The biggest area to note are edges of the anodized aluminum top plate, which have two battle scars. They weren’t beveled at the factory so these kinds of buboes are common on the OG Q. They weren’t photo shy like the LDC scratches so I took good photos of them.
The lens is in excellent condition. No blemishes to report. It comes with the same high quality B&W UV filter that it came with. I checked the camera for dust, firing it off at f22 and a blue sky. None that I can see. I put a little red washi tape over the mic ports, which reportedly is how the wiry little bastards get in in the first place. I added a Leica thumb grip, which makes the tiny little function button that falls under thumb way more usable…the rubber one on the thumb group has more travel and feels great. I’m also including a very nice wood grip/bottom plate. Three batteries (one original Leica, two Panasonic), external charger (generic). Original lens hood and cap, AND the “beauty ring” that covers the hood threads.
Lastly, I replaced the Red Dot with one of those cool silver “screw” caps from Analagous supply. No reason really. Just liked the more subdued look. The red dot comes with it though, in case you want to wave the Leica flag around.
