p.1 #1 · a7RVI and DXO PureRaw

A couple of items, it seems that PureRaw 6 is the only version that supports this body and worse (buffer wise) only lossless RAW. I just emailed them asking if they plan on adding previous versions (I own V5) and do they plan on adding compressed RAW support? I know on the a7V, they only supported lossless RAW files...at least a few months ago (maybe that has changed).
I hope they have a response that makes sense. Having to upload 1500 images after a game in lossless RAW format will not be fun not to mention the storage side of things. Fingers crossed.
Not to mention, if I'm forced to use Lossless RAW, my AF calculations goes down to 30/sec. That might be a game changer because of my workflow, I use PureRAW all the time, forced to with horrible arena/field lights.

Why would you be uploading RAW files? I thought a sports photog would be uploading jpegs? Just curious....

I'm looking at my new A7RVI and maybe I'm mistaken, but there is no "plain" uncompressed lossless RAW on the A7RVI, only three RAW file types:
1) Lossless Compressed
2) Compressed HQ
3) Compressed

Sony eliminated the old uncompressed, lossless RAW.

Supposedly Compressed and Compressed HQ are coming later.
See this thread. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1947634/

I noticed that lately, DXO has been substituting other manufacturers' lenses in their modules.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting DxO Support.

At this time, support for the Sony A7R VI is available starting with DxO PhotoLab 9.9.1 and DxO PureRAW 6.3.1.
Please note that the initial support does not include RAW Compress HQ and RAW Compress files.

Regarding DxO PureRAW 5, we are unable to guarantee if support for the Sony A7R VI will be added, and we do not have a timeline to share for any potential compatibility update.
Likewise, we cannot confirm at this stage when or if full support for all Sony A7R VI RAW formats, including RAW Compress HQ and RAW Compress, will be included in future updates.

We understand this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Kind regards,
Natalie - DxO Labs Support Team

Regarding the person who asked why not just shooting jpg's. Most sports shooters who have to shoot in crappy lighting situations, like high school arena's and fields are forced to shoot at very high ISO's. Almost everybody I know shoots in RAW, gets home uses PureRaw or Denoise, processes a few thousand images then post processes. My preference is PureRaw, looks the best, doesn't have that plastic look and destroys the same jpg out of camera....no debate.
Heck even when I'm shooting pro fields, like AT&T in Arlington or minor league baseball, I am shooting in compressed RAW. The only time I'm shooting jpg's are great LED lit fields/arena's or daytime.

I completely understand jpegs for client use but you said you were uploading raws...I assume you're batch processing the raws through pureraw as a jpeg export....then uploading. If your only concern then is pureraw support for the new raw formats then I guess we'll just have to wait. Option 2 is to use Lightroom denoise for the batch export until pureraw is updated....

When I say uploading RAW, my poor description. I meant uploading to the PureRaw app to process many files, usually in the 2000 range then I export to JPG's and post process. Yeah, LR denoise is pretty good but not a good use case since processing that many files in LR would take about 16 hours with a fast computer vs about 3 hours in DXO overnight. Just hoping that DXO adds the compressed file formats. Though, to date, I still think they have not done that with the a7V, lossless only.

I have never been impressed with DXO policy on fixing issues in their current releases. One of the reasons I still am an Adobe customer.
