Piping plovers are a federally threatened shorebird, but thanks to decades of dedicated conservation efforts, Maine has become a success story. Through protected nesting areas, volunteer monitors, responsible beach management, and public cooperation, the state's breeding population has grown significantly.
I am obsessed with how cute the babies are. I laid down in the sand to get these shots. It was worth every grain of sand to capture these beautiful little birds.
