Like I stated in my post, I grew up in Iowa where there were more cows, and hogs, than people.
Most of my elementary school classmates were children of farmers.
Those who had dairy cows, this was fixture in the barns!

Thanks much Dan. When I grew up here in NH, there was still a fair amount of dairy farms around. In a few places there were multiple dairy farms along the same back road, with 100s of head in each. My Grandparents had a very small dairy operation which was still going in the 60s. Glass bottle milk, cardboard round cap, scoop the cream off the top. I am sure you know. In the town I lived in then, the milk trucks still delivered door to door, putting milk and other dairy (ordered by Mom or Dad) in to the metal box on the doorstep. The farm up the road here still manages to exist. I’m not sure how. Everything is pretty much like it was in the 60s up the road, except that the glass bottles are now plastic. There’s an honor system store there. Maybe I’ll go take a couple of photos and post them here 👍🏻

I lived in Iowa from 1947-1958 when we moved to Mary-land.
Our Iowa milk was delivered also in bottles you describe also.
Came to Maryland and they thought I was crazy!!! Milk delivered?
But believe it or not, there is 1 such establishment that will deliver dairy to your house but that's it. More a "boutique style" creamery than a dairy.
