Yes, I have a monopod. And IR vision. The environment was for all intents and purposes dark, an hour after sunset, just some distant yard lights (thus the belly light). There was no way to see the owl with the naked eye. I saw him flying across the street so the search was on. Dog walkers are either used to me or think that I'm a creep, or both. This one guy kept talking to me about his iPhone photography of swimming kids, while I politely told him that I'm listening but don't mind me looking for the owl. Then I pointed it into this black bush, exclaiming "there he is!" - he must have thought I have lost my marbles. Again, not completely wrong.
