p.1 #1 · Yankton, South Dakota

During my last road trip, I spent a night in Yankton, South Dakota. Here are a dozen images that I captured during my stay:

1- The Meridian Bridge connects Yankton, South Dakota with rural Cedar County, Nebraska. It opened in 1924.

2- This is the lower level of the bridge.

Thank you…the theater opened in 1902. It really stands out in the downtown area.

These are really nice, I particularly like the first two photos. Gotta love an old lift bridge.

These "old," brick downtowns are quite interesting. If I were to try to peg it a bit, they have an air of local self reliance, pre interstate and post WWII boom times.

Beautiful images Glenn! A lot of charm and character shown in the photos. The Rexall Drug Store photo really takes me back to when we had one in the town I was living in.

Thank you. Whenever I see a bridge, I try to plan a photo session around it. I visited several bridges during this last road trip.

Sometimes the old downtowns are mostly abandoned. Thankfully this one was fairly active. There was much more activity when I first visited the night before. I returned early the next morning for streets that were more empty.

Thank you...I thought the town had a lot of charm. There was a photo opportunity at every corner.

Thanks Dan...I've spent time in Des Moines on photography trips. But haven't spent enough time in other sections of the state. Iowa might have to be added to my destination list.

That's likely right on the "abandoned." Maybe I might better have said, "they have an air of having been a place of local self reliance..." Some places "we're" getting "Old Town XXXX" as a nostalgic gentrifying or entertainment district, or "modernizations" like the Rexall reworked things.. Business, "local" economic bases, and transportation patterns changed.

I love old downtowns. They look similar so it gives me nostalgia even though I haven't been to that one in particular
