p.1 #1 · Trumpeter Swans and chicks in Anchorage AK

After going nearly extinct restoration is in progress for the Trumpeter Swan that began with a remnant population in Alaska. each year this pair comes to Potter Marsh just outside Anchorage to breed. The chicks hatched days ago. The parents have to be on guard, bald eagles will snatch a chick and they have a nearby nest. The chicks will mature and fly off with their parents south to expand the population and restoration towards October.

The swans will do their best, they are attentive parents as you can see them guarding their tired chicks sleeping in a pile after their morning outing. The male is always circling and watching ready to defend his mate and young. These birds get star newspaper treatment here in Anchorage.
