It's happening now. If you look for one with a minor issue, like high shutter count and a battery door that was super glued together and held for 18 months just fine, you can find them on FB marketplace. That describes the body I just sold. Worked perfectly with a clean sensor and no mechanical issues but definitely 7.5 out of 10. It wasn't suitable for the FM audience - different horses for different courses.
I remember when the A1 came along, then the A7Rv. The A7Riv used fell pretty deep. If it hits $2k or below, that's suggesting a pair of them for less than the A7Rvi... That would suggest demand for A7Rv is low and folks competing to get to the A7Rvi. Which some suggest is selling slowly so in stock.

Being in stock does not necessarily imply selling slowly. Just might mean Sony supplied a lot of cameras from the get go.
And if they had fewer available and there were waits and/or wait lists, the complaints would be Sony didn't properly gauge the interest in this obviously fantastic camera.
I bought my A7RIV used (9+) for $2300 on the FM b&s board in 2019. When the A7RV was announced in 2022 it dropped to below $2,000 and today goes for $1,500-1,600.
Am currently in Thailand and saw brand new A7RV at major Bangkok camera stores for $2,598.00, cheaper than any US outlets, probably due to the lack of tariffs, so the prices are dropping.
At the British gray importer "E-Infinity" (really reputable company, bought both my Sonys and a couple of lenses there; EU-wide distribution) you get an A7RV NEW for 2239 Euros. (The normal German price for it is still a whopping nearly 4000 Euros.)
I'm currently in Japan, went to a store in Osaka that had a used A7RV on mint for 1998 (no tax fee). If it weren't for the fact that Sony doesn't allow you to change the language in their cameras, I might have bought it
I've been looking at MPB (it's easy to look to, if perhaps not the best low price source for a buyer) and "Like New" has now dropped below $2400 as the bottom of their "range" on that category. It was $2800 when I started looking more frequently not all that long ago.
My friend sold his A7RV to KEH for $1800. I didn't ask him about the condition but I think it should be really good because he only used it for some macro stuff. I may pick one up again at this price for the heck of it. It's a marvelous camera for landscape and some other stuff as long as you are not shooting fast subjects often and are reluctant to use mechanical shutter.

Yeah new uk grey imports from HK currently £1890 so I wouldn’t consider used here unless it was under £1500 and had a low shutter count.
Not sure how it’s affected the US but grey have pretty much destroyed the used market for anyone in the know.
I’d probably buy one today at $2000 if it was in excellent condition and had a reasonably low shutter count. That price seems fair. I need to move up from my R3 after skipping the IV.
