the cute bears reminded me about my first meeting with the bears 50 years ago in Sequoia NP. My wife and I just bumped to a group of bears, our first encounting with these creatures ever. Good we didn't run nor show any surprising reaction. They were also very relaxed in our surrounding.

John, these are wonderful, and what an experience! TFS and congratulations! 
A quick question. Did you see other bears while at GSMNP? These bears do not seem to display the plague of mange that was so apparent over the past few seasons. Great news if this is not just a one off!

Hi Mary. Yes ,I saw lots of bears. Unfortunately I did see some bears with mange. I did not post any, but did photograph some. Incredibly sad to see. I would not say a lot but a few. Even one is too many.

These are great. Thanks for sharing where you were. Can I ask how you were situated to get these over multiple days? Like, did you have a blind of some sort set up? Or just stalk them through the woods and hide in the brush? I would think you're very brave. I was just in CO with my son where we saw (I'm pretty sure) large bear tracks in a muddy creek bottom as we were walking along a wooded path. My son, who normally is very anti-hiking, was suddenly very interested in seeing a bear, whereas I immediately started talking louder and whistling so we hopefully wouldn't startle one in the underbrush.

eapage777 Thanks. No blind, Just get up early and stay all day till last light. Lots of walking ( trails) and driving, searching for them. Sometimes lots of waiting ( you know what patch of woods they frequent ) wait to get a glimpse hope they are in the open for a few minutes to fire off a few frames. Lots of time ,effort spent. Go back to hotel find something for dinner, shower,sleep, get up early and do it all over again. I have done this for over 25 years, every year gets a little bit harder.
