I was strolling with our beloved passed dog and with the new toy it being the 85/1.2 when unexpectedly crossed this bride group on top of a staircase, couldn't resist not to ask to take a shot and was also brave enough to close the diaphragm a bit ;-)
The Bride and maybe her mother seemed to appreciate and cooperate, but the assumed Dad didn't care, and the other lady was leaning towards Dad's thinking.

I agree. Their expressions take the air out of the photo for me.
You couldn't resist not to ask? I am not sure what that means. Maybe didn't have the courage to ask? Yes, the father brings the shot down but you did not ask for permission and he apparently did not like the liberty you took. Better to ask and enroll the group in posing or move on if they say no. My two cents.

You said "couldn't resist not to ask". A double and maybe triple negative. I guess I misunderstood and thought you did not ask permission. I am glad you did. That does not excuse your attitude here but that may explain the fellow's expression in the photo.
