I removed the center column of my tripod recently but struggling to put it back in. The column doesn't fit all the way through so I'm assuming I need to loosen it, but can't figure it out. I've been spending the better part of the last 1-2 hours with no success. There's a screw on the side of the spider but not budging when I turn it clockwise or counterclockwise. So unsure if that's the way.

Most center columns have an alignment slot that prevents twisting. So it only fits in one way. If that's the case with yours, you need to rotate the column to align the key in the apex with the slot in the column so it will slide through.
This is the center column from a Leofoto LM tripod which has an alignment slot.
