p.1 #1 · Leica M7 vs Nikon Z7

Just took a long weekend trip up the coast here in CA. One of the destinations was Hearst Castle.
I took two Fuji Work Records, a Zeiss Ikon Nettar 517/2, and a Nikon Z7 w the F mount 24-120G. Just because I really should use the Z for more than just film scanning, and the 24-120 would be a useful range.

Used the Z7 and Fujis at Hearst Castle, and when I went through my Z7 shots I realized that some looked very familiar to pics I took with a Leica M7 w 28 Cron several years prior.

I, too, really want to use my Z7 more. Recently, I have been taking it with a Nikkor 26/2.8 Z mount lens as a travel kit. Below are a few images taken in Cambridge, MA about a month ago.

Now you need some mythical S7 to split the difference...

That’s where the in-laws stay. They are not allowed up at the main residence.

It probably has a walk in closet that's bigger than our house.

Great photos with both cameras indeed! How did you PP the film negative photos digitally? Normally I would expect a bigger variation in colors between digital and this Fuji film stock. One some photos the difference is visible a bit in the sky color and the tennis court, but to my eyes it seems the color gamut of the film scans was adjusted to match partially the digital ones.

The film photos were taken maybe five years ago - and processed then to what you see posted. They were scanned w the Z7 that was used for the pure digital shots shown. I used negativelabpro to convert. The interior shots IMO look the most similar, it is the exterior ones where you can see the biggest difference - the tennis court and pool pics.
I like them both, it was just interesting to compare them. I would say the pure digital shots' colour is truer to life. That would be a plus if that is what you wanted! The film shots look more like a memory to me - everything was captured but not exactly how it was

Just noticed another unintended comparison! Fuji Work Record w Fojak 400 vs Z7. Shot at the same time but I was unaware Dr G was taking the 'same' pic as I was:

Can't help with an M7 shot if that's San Simeon, though I wish I'd taken film on this trip, haven't made it back since, but I did get it with Sony a7r and 28 Elmarit-R II passing through in 2015. Had to climb over a fence and wrestle an Elephant Seal (almost!) to get this pre-dawn.

Sorry for the tangent, really liked that part of the CA coast.

FWIW, interesting comparison, love how similar the trees and birds look in the tennis court one

Back at you, the power of photos as memories. As soon as I saw yours it took me back to a happy trip at a happy time. Thanks! Maybe you'll be back to Hearst Castle with your Ai camera, or Smell-o-vision technology finally takes off, and we'll get a three-sided comparison some day

Z7 looks like such an amazing value stills camera. How do you like the 24-120G? Been considering getting a travel zoom for my F6 eventually

I bought it a while back to use on my F6. Super lens, but of course big n bulky. The stabilizing system built into it works nicely on the F6. Get the last/latest version. I think there are earlier ones which are not as good.

F6, 24-120G, Fuji 200
