Not the Metal Gray but in a similar vein, I try to buy all the green/safari editions I can. I enjoy something different. That being said, I do find myself more conscious of the lenses in use or while traveling and tend to use cheaper options when I am in locations or situations that are more risk prone simply due to the increased cost or scarcity of a lot of the green lenses.
With camera bodies I am using the green options as my main cameras because they make me want to pick them up and shoot more.
I'm sure there are a lot of people that buy them just to put them on a shelf but people do that with normal gear as well.

I thought this was supposed to be a telltale sign from Leica that as the release of special variants and limited editions accelerate for a given model line, that it's nearing the end of its run.

Last I heard the M12 release won't be until February 2027. Originally scheduled earlier, but processor issues have delayed it. It will still have a Sony sensor.
Also, I am not sure how Leica is resolving the M12 name copyright issue. That could be interesting.
