So I've been going down a rabbit hole trying to recreate Arvid's m8raw2dng converter. I found the old version on the way back web, and had ChatGPT and Claude create an updated version for apple silicon Mac and I think I'm 90% there. So far what I'm seeing is that the 14 bit RAW file has a ton more highlight detail, but whatever Leica does to the compression for the normal 8bit DNG seems to be superior for shadow recovery to what I've created so far.
Anyone else use this now or in the past and what did you notice? I am not looking for miracles, mainly just curious to see this through now that I've gone down this rabbit hole. It's kind of fun to have these free programmers working for this philosophy major.
Happy to share what I have if anyone wants to play. The one thing it does, that were about to solve for was removing this severe green tint before the white balance.
