p.4 #2 · Do You Prefer Groundbreaking Technology or Longevity?
If I can resist the urge during the first 2 months after a launch, I generally end up avoiding the upgrade altogether.
I've done this with my iPhones. Every year Apple launches a new one, I check it out at the Apple Store, and usually come away feeling that it's not much of an upgrade. The lack of availability and the sea of crowds around launch time also help steer me away.
It's been a good learning experience. Just because something new comes out doesn't mean the old one suddenly stops working. I've skipped four generations of iPhones and have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.
The older I get, the faster time seems to pass. Something I bought 3 years ago still feels relatively new to me. I bought the A7R V at launch, and I was genuinely surprised when rumours of the A7R VI started appearing. The same thing will probably happen when the Z8 II comes out.
