Mommy, I'm cold!
p.1 #1Mommy, I'm cold!
I had the delight to see a one or two hour old Killdeer wondering near it's nest yesterday at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY. It was an unusually cold 55f, about 15 degrees colder than normal and then it started to rain. The chick headed straight to it's mom who welcomed it under her nice warm feathers. As she opened up for her chick, a great surprise!
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
1) Chick walking back to mom in the rain
2) Chick looking at mom
3) Mom looks back at her chick
4) Chick crawling under mom
5) Wait, there's a second chick and I think a leg sticking out of an egg!
6) Chick comes back out to play
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris

Thank you Karl,
This was a great experience and with only one chick hatching when I was leaving I was surprised to see the photo of the second one when I got home. Seeing that leg emerge was even better.

These are great captures, Morris. Nice work as usual. They really depict why college kids at games hold up signs that say, "Love you Mom! Dad, sent money!"

Glad to see the property is back open, we had the misfortune of stopping by there last summer when the site was fenced-off and closed for construction.
Love your images of the Killdeer chicks (and mom), you got my sweetie and I excited for a return visit this coming week!
