X100 or Ricoh GR is the best tool for documenting your traveling and local atmosphere. They are also quite competent for other type of photography (street, landscape etc.) if the focal length is right. Definitely worth carrying if you already have one!
Very often when traveling I take more than 50% of the pictures with a fixed lens compact.
Just in case anyone cares, I choose to go light this trip. Just a sling with my xt-5 with 18mm 1.4wr and Viltrox 75mm 1.2 along with some filters. I did pack a tripod, but other than a long exposure of a waterfall, I didn't need or use it. 24 hours of light makes that easy I suppose.
My travel companion did also bring an instax mini that we shot 3 packs of film with.
Not being over burdened with weight or choice was pretty freeing, especially since this trip wasn't purely gears towards photography. I used the 18mm for just about everything and pulled out the 75mm for some horses and a few specific shots. I definitely work well within limitations and can make the most of what I have with me. There was one time where something a little wider could have been nice when shooting a lighthouse and maybe two instances where a 23-35mm lens would have been better, but I managed to find another composition that worked just as well.
If/when I go back I would maybe considered a slightly different kit, but otherwise I don't really have any regrets.
Edit: honestly the worst thing about my kit was trying to see the dang screen in bright light. Yeah viewfinder is there, but when shooting low or high when tiling the screen, it felt like a bit of a guessing game sometimes.
