The problem I have with this camera is I then start to think of the options for this kind of thing. This camera is $1500-ish with the zoom lens and M43 20mp sensor.
A Fuji XM5 with kit zoom is less than $1000 and has the larger sensor. It does not have an EVF for sure.
But I really dislike powered zoom lenses - it gives cameras such a p&s feel - whereas a camera like the Fuji -as it has interchangeable lenses - has manual/mechanical zoom.
Is the EVF on the Lumix worth an extra $500?

I don't get the complain, why complaining a p&s camera gives you p&s feel?
Power zoom can be helpful when you only have one hand to operate the camera.

The switch on the top of the lens can be set to change focal length, which might help.

What is interesting is if you buy the camera directly from Panasonic it comes with a 4 year warranty.
If you buy it from a regular retailer it only has a 1 year warranty.

The ti/champagne version is sold out...

I'll stick with my DLux8. If I want compact, I want compact. A few MP isn't worth the extra size. If I was getting serious I'd want more camera anyway.

I just got a Leica D-Lux Typ 109 for a "this must be a mistake" price as my back up/give to the wife/don't waste money on focal lengths I rarely shoot" camera. The things I wish that camera had (articulating screen for selfies, mic input, better evf) the L10 has but I'm so stuck on that price. I'm spending an extra 1k so I don't have to connect to the app when my wife and I take selfies? That's a trip AND a voigtlander lens lol

I would much prefer a shutter speed dial than the PASM etc dial. Something the D-Lux 8 has.
I'll hold off until the D-Lux 9 is released to see which direction Leica goes with it. Maybe...

Very different review from Cam. I dig that he travels with his dog…

Digression - there is now a note on the Panasonic site saying they were overwhelmed by the demand for the camera and if you want they can notify you via email for the next production round.

One of the biggest competition for this camera is S9 esp for bloggers... There is no IBIS with L10 and handheld blogging videos are shaky... Also used S9's are available for $900 at the same size with interchangeable lenses such as 18-40mm, new Pana 40mm and Viltrox 28mm/TTartisan 26mm pancake lenses in addition to Sigma dg dn line... That was the case with LX100 I & II when I used GM1/GM5/GX7 with higher quality primes for photography instead of LX... Also missing IBIS takes the multi-shot computational benefits that come with S9, G9 II & OM1/3... It still is a good camera for street though some of the reviewers called the extension of the zoom slow... I captured action shots with GM1/GX7 without the phase detection as Panasonic contrast detection is fast enough that makes the case for the cheaper and smaller LX 100 II & D-Lux 7 also.. GX7 with PanaLeica 42.5mm 1.2 from 2014:

Cam mentioned in the comments section that his hand kept on accidentally hitting the buttons on the back. This is why the Leica versions are better - they clean up that mess.

I’m going to follow this with interest as I want to see if Leica does release their re-skin. I’d be annoyed if I bought the L10 and then saw for $500 more I could have got what I really wanted.
Kinda crazy to think ‘for $500 more’ is no big deal…. But that is the Leica world.

You make it so nice for small L mount lenses... There is the somewhat slow 18-40mm which is fine in good light, the upcoming 40mm which should be good, the TTartisan 40mm which is good, the sc-image 35mm, and two upcoming lenses. The Viltrox 28mm is the fixed f4.5 and is available for other mounts and is limited by the fixed aperture and not being able to mount filters. The TTartisan 26mm seems to be a fixed f/3.8 and also unable to mount filters. Both are very limited in use in trying to make them small. What we need are the equivalent to the Nikon 26mm and 28mm models. The Panasonic 40mm is a great step in the right direction, but not enough. The Sigma I series lens are great, but other than the 45mm f/2.8, 24mm f/3.5, 90mm f/2.8 are larger and heavier than the Panasonic 1.8 primes.

I hope Viltrox brings over the their Air line to L mount but they haven't announced that. I expect I will buy the Viltrox 28mm Chip lens, but it won't get much use, it's a bit slow for indoors and for outdoors I might as well carry the 18-40. For longer I'm feeling stuck with the 20-60 f.3.5-5.6. I shouldn't fell bad with my S9, it's not like Sony and Nikon have a lot of small light lenses for the Zf or A7CII.

Someone with an L10 seems to have the basics 24-75 covered with glass that lets in more light. I hope companies bring more light small lenses to full frame, it's just not there yet.

Everyone thinks this is the most exciting new camera of the year, but I think it misses the whole point of a compact camera:
https://amateurphotographer.com/latest/opinion/everyone-thinks-this-is-the-most-exciting-new-camera-of-the-year-but-i-think-it-misses-the-whole-point-of-a-compact-camera/

"So where does all this leave me? Well, whilst I admire the introduction of the new L10 camera, I still wish there were smaller options available that were designed for serious photographers – and that leaves me continuing to search eBay and other second-hand retailers for the old cameras."

Dpreview size comparison of LX100 II vs L10:
https://www.dpreview.com/articles/7448610185/panasonic-lx100ii-versus-l10-size-comparison
"The newer camera is 127 x 74 x 67mm (5.0 x 2.9 x 2.6") and 508g (17.9oz), while the older one is smaller in every dimension: 115 x 66 x 64mm (4.5 x 2.6 x 2.5") and 392g (13.8oz).

When Panasonic announced the L10, it touted its "signature saffiano leather-textured finish" and "high-quality metal exterior with magnesium alloy front case." Holding the L10, it feels slightly more solid than the LX100 II, and not just because the thicker grip fills out my hand more. The rest is a bit more of a mixed bag, though. The top plate dials and buttons feel decidedly cheaper and more plasticky to me. The rear plate buttons aren't especially pleasing to me either, though I appreciate that they're more prominent and easier to press. I also prefer the leatherette wrap on LX100 II to the L10's; it feels grippier and softer to the touch, while the L10's essentially just feels like textured plastic. It's not an unalloyed win for the LX100 II, though. I find the L10's aperture ring feels and sounds quite a bit nicer, though I appreciate the noticeable detent when going into and out of 'A' mode on both."

Leica is still on the D-Lux 8 "metal gray" cycle that is expected in June:

Complete insanity that anybody would buy this in a world where the S9 exists, let alone all the other options on the market.

Too small of sensor relative to body size, among many other issues.

S9 has no EVF, no mechanical shutter, no hot shoe. Screen can be hard to see in bright light.

What equivalent lens would you use on the S9? I couldn't find one that wasn't either significant larger, or slower.

I would put anything on the S9 over shooting this.
I would buy an LX100 and hate it (again) before buying the L10. M4/3 fixed lens is a joke unless it's tiny, which this isn't.
