I kind of wish Pentax put in more effort (or had the budget to do so etc.); their approach is unique, and from what I've seen their ergonomics and UI are excellent.

The body is not the issue
It’s the lenses that need to be big to cover the sensor
55-250 on cropper, 100-400 on FF. HUGE difference! At some point you can't escape big lenses. I use a 70-300 II on my crops, and now on the R10. Next up the list is the Sigma 150-600. No apsc equivalent to be found. You wanna go long, you gotta go big.

I concur
I too have the stm 55-250is
I somehow ended up with two. Also have both 70-300Lis & 100-400Lii… they never see use these days. Nor does the 300/4Lis, 70-200/2.8is, 70-200/4Lis (and later Mkii version) again same goes for my ancient 35-350L
I just got sick of hauling heavy glass and still always wanting the one I left behind. But yet not quite ready to let go…if that makes sense.
At present the humble R100 & 14-30PZ seems to suit how I approach picture taking these days. No longer that serious, but serious enough that I still want more than a phone or a compact can offer.

I had the 55-250 for a while. I decided on the 70-300 II instead; it isn't that much bigger. I was planning to sell the R100/18-45/55-210. It does make an incredibly light, very versatile travel kit, so I'll keep it. My 14-30mm is on the way. And all of that will fit in a bag that weighs a lot less than my 6DII/24-105/17-40.
My original complaint about the R10 was its diminutive size. Now size is one of its 'biggest' assets. Ditto the RF glass that goes with it.

EF 70-300is II nano??
Yeah I have one myself. The AF is blisteringly fast. I used it about 18mths ago with the canon 6Dii for sons charity football match. Couldn’t believe just how fast it was and the shots were (to me) almost indistinguishable from its L counterpart.
Helluva lens.

The Pentax K5/K3 are hands down THE most comfortable caneras I have ever used. The button placement is so clever as is the rear interface and the sensor delivers JPEGs that to me are far superior to canon. The problem is the AF isn’t a patch on mirrorless - yet I did compare the K3 AF to my 6D… embarrassingly the K3 was better!!! I always assumed the 6D would be the winner.
When I shoot Pentax I use TAv (time & aperture) I decide both and the camera decides the rest. I shoot Reversal picture style or mono. Reversal gives amazing blacks that hark back to slide film - I almost always underexpose to boost contrast…gorgeous caneras!!

Yes, the 70-300 nano.
I was leary of it coming from the original version (which was AFD, not real USM), I tried to use it at football (US-style) games. The AF was woefully slow for action moving straight toward me. Version II-nano can keep up with my dogs running full-tilt-boogie directly at me. It ain't version II; it is a completely redesigned lens.
