The good news is that it's been 24 hours and this hasn't been pulled from their site and no major Canon camera forum reports of issues. IIRC the last time they had a firmware that had major issues, it was discovered and reported fairly quickly (not to say that there aren't any bugs that might creep up later after more users update and then use their R5iis in a myriad of ways).
One of my settings this weekend will involve birds in flight, so I will likely update tonight when I get home just so I have the ability to map the pre-capture enable/disable button. Barring any last minute reports of issues, of course.

This is an very exciting update and hopefully it fixes one of my main gripes with the camera - wifi only over 2.4ghz which was completely useless in the field for moving subjects or moving camera. 5ghz is supposed to be much better and I am looking forward to trying this out. Makes remote shooting that much more convenient for low angle shots with inverted monopod

How does DPP care about the camera FW? Is that for the lens defect corrections?

I guess there is some reason they didn't want to release the new firmware before the updated DPP was out, besides just waiting for the R6V release. Probably a new feature somewhere in that firmware that the older version of DPP would not recognize. I wonder if adobe needs to update as well?

Many of the newer Canon lenses have terrible distortion, chromatic aberration, etc. and I was thinking maybe the 20-50 is of that ilk, requiring DPP update to process RAWs. But I don't know why DPP would need firmware info for that, only in the camera.

Yes if it was just an "in camera" processing update issue. DPP is capable of downloading the new lens profile from its own menu. If it was an "in camera" lens profile issue, all of the cameras would have gotten a new firmware and all would be listed in the DPP changelog the same way, instead of just mentioning the R5mkII.

That's what I expected and why I'm confused.
I'm in the middle of power calibrations and cannot install the DPP tonight, but will later.

I updated the firmware and DPP just tonight, so I have not shot with the camera yet. DPP was updated from the "check for updates" in DPPs "about" tab (Windows version). I also saw it on Canon Singapore and Vietnam (which is where that changelog came from). If it is not on USA sit yet it will be soon.

Petapixel posted an article on Thursday stating that the 1.3 update adds (American) football as a new sport in Action Priority mode.
Also added is support for Dual Pixel RAW shooting.
I didn’t see those two mentioned on the list posted earlier in this thread, though I may have missed them.

DPP would need an update presumably to recognize and support Dual Pixel RAW in the R5 Mark II files. For the lens you would just download a lens profile when available. That should work across all recent versions of DPP I should think.
Adobe will need an update to support the lens. They do not currently support DPR for any Canon body, so I expect no changes there.

I need Canon to fix that video wobble on the R5 Mark II, especially with the 15-35mm and 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lenses. I shoot handheld video postcards, and I still get wobbly corners. On Canon, when you leave the IS switch on the lens enabled, it also activates the body stabilization, which creates that wobble. Crazy

There have been some reports of freeze ups after updating on some of the FB R5 mkII forums. May be user error, but I'll wait a while.
Anyone here have any issues? Any AF changes (stills)?

I'm on the previous fw and infrequently the camera freezes if I review images while it's still writing to the cards (camera is set up to write to both cards). I haven't yet been able to narrow this down to whether it's the CFe or SD card or which of the multiple makes and models I use in the camera. Just mentioning this as a data point.
What is the nature of the freezes reported in the FB groups? While shooting, while reviewing images, etc.?

Admittedly this is just my experience, but I updated my two R5iis and have taken both on moderately long shooting assignments (2 hours each) and neither has frozen up. I cannot detect any improvement or degradation in autofocus performance (meaning it has always been great for me and continues to be so) and I did not have a chance to shoot American Football. But I can confirm I've mapped the pre-capture on/off to a specific button of my choice, and that it works as intended.

They have to fix the Wobbly corners in video handheld static shots when using 24-70mm 2.8L IS
From my understanding this is due to the IBIS (in body image stabilization) implementation in Canon cameras, and likely will not be able to be fixed via firmware. it's also primarily limited to wider focal lengths, the most common complaint/examples I've seen are in the 20mm and wider focal lengths, so it's actually surprising to me that you're getting it on 24mm (I don't have that focal length). You basically have a few options:
1. Shoot at longer focal lengths (I have a 35mm VCM and don't see the wobbles there).
2. Go with another camera ecosystem for video (I know, costly and impractical)
3. Defeat all Canon IBIS/IS when shooting video handheld and use a gimbal

Yea people are saying to turn lens IS off and leave the in body on standard and I’ll be good to go.
