Honestly, I don't understand when artistic excellence has gone out of the door. Trash bokeh with great sharpness... Everyone needs this! Okay! But... I don't get.
I'm going to give a hug to my beloved Nikon 58/1.4G and have a good cry.

I tend to like what I like, and not like what I don't like.....irrespective of what other people like and don't like.
Like what you like. There will always be diversity in what people like, even if maybe some preferences ebb and flow.

I think you’re posting in the wrong thread. This is not a discussion thread, it’s an image thread. And you’re correct, you don’t get it.
the bokeh isnt trash, no esta basura hermano
Having such sharp optical performance and so many special glass elements comes with tradeoffs in OOF rendering,
but the performance is okay with me on this 35 evo lens.
This is at close portrait distance with super hektik thorny plants in the close background

Have you seen the video samples from this lens in the youtube reviews - wow!!
The following pics are not pretty, i wanted to show how it clears up with ugly background like mulch close up.
This is as cluttered a near distance background as i could find to make it as hard as possible.
Notice the center sharpness is impeccable on the flower (“Crown of thorns”)
See how this renders/clears from 1.8 to 2.8 up to f/4:
ILCE-7RM3Sony FE 35mm F1.8 (SEL35F18F) lens35mmf/1.81/4000s100 ISO0.0 EV

ILCE-7RM3Sony FE 35mm F1.8 (SEL35F18F) lens35mmf/4.01/800s100 ISO0.0 EV
At mid distance foliage bokeh is nice.
At 1.8 it is very swirly with pronounced cats eye and then quickly OOF highlights get round and stays very round until f/4 at least. This was a big sell for the 35 APO, but it only had this roundness at a few stops. I Like this.
This is holy basil “tulsi” at close distance.

General look of the images I’ve seen around the web and this thread are enough to have me intrigued. Pulled the trigger this morning and it’ll be here Friday. LFG!!
In case anyone hasn’t seen, Viltrox just released FW 1.08. Haven’t had a chance to test yet, but 1.06 was already fine. This update for the FE mount version is supposed to help with unevenly lit scenes and “stability.” Not sure what any of that actually means in use.

Thank you!
Is the Viltrox application really in Chinese only?
After some not too hard guesswork I'm grateful for the "Update succeeded" message in the end.
Looks like the APP is pretty new, thats probably why its only in chinese.
At least there is an app, because im shure that most people found the old viltrox firmware update process too complicated:
By downloading a file from the viltrox website for the specific lens that was then saved into the lens by connecting it via USB and a „drive“ would open for your lens via windows (not mac compatible), thats where you had to save the updated firmware file.
At least now there is only one green button that you can press - foolproof, even if you cant read it
Reminds me that Viltrox is a young company. Kudos to what they have achieved already.
My copy was perfectly centered : all 4 corners RAZOR sharp wide open!!
Still, Ive sent my 35EVO back to Viltrox. It is crazy sharp, but also vignettes crazy wide open. The AF was hunting in low light after the first firmware update. But I returned it mostly because I personally prefer the rendering of the 35 Simera which has more POP (especially in video) IMO. The AF is not as vital for me on the wide 35mm but im still looking at the 7Artisans 40/2.5 which doesnt include ED elements (1 asph 3 HR). Just something to replace the hole in my bag where the 40 Nokton used to live.
Major Sunstar:

Purchased the 35 EVO to try and during shipment ended up picking up a 35 GM instead. Did a quick test shot 1.8 vs 1.8 (not scientific) and the 35 evo was sharper and eliminated aberrations better than the GM. Kind of mind blowing when considering the price difference.
Example of copy variation. After having read everything available about the Viltrox 35EVO I orded a copy of the lens day 1. Well, some images looked good, some not. So, I went through my usual initial procedure and checked the center, corners and borders at close distance and as close to eternity along with a decentering test.
I ordered a second copy from another vendor while returning the first one. I got a mail telling me they could get me a couple within a week and then I decided to order a third copy, again from another vendor.
The above is with a target with a width of 0.84m approx. The long distance target showed the same difference. Maybe the lens construction is too complicated and allowing for too much of variation without anyone noticing? I don't know. I just kept copy 3.
