I just saw this on CR, but I don't think Sigma will make one of these lenses in an EF mount and probably not in an RF mount, unless Canon gave them their blessing along with an expensive licensing fee. It will be interesting.

That would be interesting. Not necessarily interesting enough to buy, but interesting. If Sigma does it, it will likely be a good quality lens.

85mm f1 !!
What do you do with it? Seriously??
It sounds like an outrageous spec., but really, is it that different from an 85/1.2? Nah. Frankly, the Canon RF 85/1.2L is *so* good that I would never give it up. And I am talking about astrophotography performance where every bit of aberration in the corners will be visible.
Edit: and they are actually talking about a 65mm, so a little different.

People have been making 50 f/1 and f/0.95 lenses for a long time, and 85 f/1.2 lenses, which have also been makde for a long time, have a larger entrance pupil and therefore need a bigger front element, so I don't think this lens will be especially hard to build. Sigma sems interested in offering some unique lenses that other people do not, and this appears to be one of those. I think that is an interesting development and highlights that Sigma wants to be a premium lens maker.

I'm hoping that it will be along the line of their 40/1.4 | Art, which is a masterpiece that I need to find someday... but if they can make this new ~65/1.0 more compact for mirrorless that'd be a big win IMO.
Of course, we need to start getting Art primes on RF mount too...

I bought the original 85mm 1.2L back in the late 90’s … god it was so slow… I traded it in, can’t remember what for!!
Today I have the EF 85/1.8 and RF 85/2 plus a sigma EX 85/1.4
Yet I seldom use 85!!
On crop the RF 85 equates to 135 on FF so that is useful especially with the Macro and IS too.
