Well that sucks. I assume it shows bigtime in the images. Have you tried pixel mapping? IDK if it would help, but at least worth a try. Otherwise it sounds like a trip to Sony for repair.

Always shoot wide open i.e f/5.6 on that lens - to let the most light possible in. That will help with subject detection and autofocus as well. There is no good reason to shoot f/9 if you can shoot f/5.6 except perhaps for landscape.
If you can't avoid that kind of background use Zone not wide - harder to keep the subject in the Zone but less likely to get confused by all the highlights in the background. Usually I find Sony cameras are way better than Canon or Nikon at staying on the subject in those conditions but they are not infallible. A longer focal length also helps as DOF is much less and background is a bit more out of focus so less likely to cause problems - but BIF at 840mm has other challenges.
Best solution is to position yourself such that background is not an issue - more easily said than done. Next best solution is to simply delete those images in camera before you start questioning whether the money was well spent !

That is not cool! If you get a copy of original receipt from that FM member you may be able to get a warranty repair.

If it is an A7R6 and it's under the glass send it back to the store/Sony - hopefully you got the original invoice
Isn't it sealed under the glass and you're absolutely sure it's under the glass not a bit of the glass coating that has come off ?

Sorry to hear that. Just send it to Sony for warranty repair. They will honor the warranty even it's not in you name, As long as it was purchased from a legit US Sony retailer.

I went back and looked at test pictures I first took when I got it, can't say with certainty if it was there or not. Those were using my 300 2.8. I can see the spec in shots on my second outing with it, and can see it showing up as low as F 1.8 in my most recent shots. At 2.8 it's clear, and obviously F8 it's like "Hey, look at me!
I have 2 high school volleyball teams I need it for tomorrow and all week for senior portraits. Thankfully the spot is on the edge and usually outside the aspect ratio boundaries I tend to use so I can remove it in post for now.
Duncangr - No idea honestly. It does look oddly circular and white. Not like a normal piece of dust.
