Away from detailed discussions: for a non-pro (like me) who had the A7RIIi since 2017 till this June: the MarkVI is absolutely and overwhelmingly powerful and opens a new world where haven’t ventured out yet. The speed, the IQ, the high ISO, the resolution and cropability, the insane AF, the IBIS… stunning progress. For a similar price like the MarkIII ten yrs ago matched for inflation.

And, I joined Mark Galer at Patreon and use his approach and his CAMSET (adjusted for my use) - all I can say - what a great way to learn how a Pro uses Sony equipment. I’ve never even thought of the concepts there. The MarkVI *menu is such an improvement! Basically that’s it for my life. Final tech step reached. From here it’s just creation

Perfect… I did the same. I’ve hated the Sony menu architecture. The new CAMSET in camera storage and downloading Mark Galer’s CAMSETS made for an easy start. His E-Book for this camera is written assuming that you are using his presets, but provides information to make your own. Much improved camera compared to previous ‘R’ cameras. Short of needed the faster sensor, I would not upgrade from the A7Rv. It absolutely was a great upgrade from the A7CR. The EVF and responsiveness are a marked improvement.

Just received mine yesterday and a few minutes to play with it yesterday around the house. Very happy with it thus far. Looking forward to getting out and putting it through the paces this weekend if I can find a spot here in CO that doesn't catch fire. First two, one my typical model and then one with my subject in direct sun at 1/8000 with ES and pushed one stop.

Congrats, Lance! And good to see you adding fan photography to your repertoire I wondered how you would like it coming from Nikon (or did you shoot Sony before Nikon?). There are still things I miss about my Z8 but overall the A7R6 is fitting in well for me (no real surprises as I came from A7RV) and I can’t argue with the breathtaking image quality. I do hope to see Nikon decide to compete in this space before too long, competition is always good.

I'm interested in the A7R VI, how are people processing their images? I use Lightroom Classic, I am concerned that only Adobe profiles are available, I'm not a fan of Adobe color. Also any comments from Nikon Z8 users would be interesting to hear.

Hey Brian. I’m using Lightroom Classic and finding Adobe Color working fine for me most of the time, and sometimes the Landscape profile when it suits the image. It’s only preliminary support at this point and I’m sure all the camera-matching profiles will be added just as they were for the A7RV. I really like Colin Walker’s Color Fidelity profiles (used to be called Huelight) and I just ordered his new one for the A7R6.

The Z8 had become my main camera this year up until the A7R6 release and I find the Z8 to be a great do-it-all machine at a good price, especially for those who demand the super fast sensor readout, and I would have continued shooting it if I wasn’t such an obsessed high-resolution and high-DR addict for my landscape and printing work.

I never thought the Sony camera matching profiles in LR were ever worth a damn.

Having access to all the excellent Nikon profiles is a big boon for color work, for sure.

You're best off just making baseline custom presets by camera and lens combo for Sony and working from there.

I do agree and I find the color profiles in Lightroom Classic for the Z8 to be better starting points than for the Sony. I still have Z8 images I’m processing from the last four months and I’m always pleasantly surprised at how easily they fall on the page, so to speak. As I look at the body of work I produced this year with the Z8, it has me feeling great vibes toward the Nikon, especially how the images look after very little processing.

I have to say the latest implementation of Adobe’s “standard colors” on Sony raws seems very good so far. I don’t know how well they match Sony camera profiles, but I’m finding Adobe Standard very true to life, impressively so.
