Based on Bill's data, correct, close to within the margin of error. I just pulled up Dpreview's ISO Latitude widget and their results indicate the a7rVI ES is worse than the a7rV MS, slightly outside the margin of error I'd say. Also conflicts slightly with Bill's input-referred read noise (although the PDR differences can be for other reasons like SNR, resolution normalization). I'm not at my desktop right now but when I am in a few hours I'll download the Dpreview raws to match sure they matched the exposures properly.

I see LR now supports AR6 RAW conversions. That shot above looks pretty good from a noise standpoint. Was that done with the default settings?
I used 30 points of Denoise above. Here it is with zero noise reduction:
(Note: I exposed for highlights and in LR pushed the exposure by 1.5 stops, so this is essentially an ISO 2400 image)

With the A7rVI,it is looking almost certain that my move to Sony will come soon. I am traveling at the moment, so I won’t be in the first wave of buyers — more likely after I return and once I see all of the additional tools I’ll need such as L brackets and so forth.
I’m also increasingly likely to include the new 100-400 (plus a 1.4x TC), though I’ve liked my “telescoping” Canon EF 100-400 for its smaller packed size.
Beyond that I need to get serious about filling out the set of lenses that I’ll need to roughly cover what I currently use on Canon.

Why not stick with a r5 ii?
That said. Sony is amazing. I just tested the ai focusing of the r6. And it was sticky as glue can’t wait to shoot it this weekend.
@RossMartin Thanks for the sample photos and initial thoughts! I would definitely be interested in hearing how you think it compares to the Z8.
Part of me feels like I should just jump in and get the a7rVI. I always liked high MP cameras, I could always use more dynamic range, it should fix quite a few of my annoyances with my a7rIV, the light up buttons are something I missed from Nikon, and Sony has a few unique lenses I am interested in. But after getting so used to how frictionless it is to use the Z8 I am concerned if I will still find Sony a more clunky experience. Especially when I know I will be in for over 5k between the camera, new batteries, and new memory cards.
So I did not get the batteries and charger. Some issue with the Fredex. Now the batteries are out of stock. I should not have opened the camera box. Not sure how returnable it would be.

I am using a 5DsR, and moving forward with any brand will ultimately require new lenses, so there is nothing to tie me to Canon.
There are many lenses that Canon has/had that don't exist in Sony, less so in Nikon.
If you don't need the best AF get an MC-11 so that you can use some of the EF lenses to begin with.

As you know, these things are 100% personal preference. You’ve basically highlighted the main issues. I think the Z8 is a great value and as a longtime Nikon user I prefer its build, feel in hand, size (my pinky fits) and overall ergonomics. But as a (mostly) landscape photographer who prints and appreciates the subtle improvements I see when I can capture and print more detail, the A7R6 will be my camera for the foreseeable future, as the A7RV was (I’m beginning my 4th year using Sony). If Nikon ever decides to compete in this high-res, high DR space, I will be the first to preorder.

Nice - the first A7r6 image I have seen that shows the same magic I found the A7r5 images have. You need to give those reviewers some lessons on how to take pictures.

Thank you, I appreciate that! The files are a joy to work with.
Damn.. I’ve not made it past charging the battery. Sony menus are a bit of a mystery once again. I took advantage of the $300 off and picked up the 50-150mm f/2.0 GM and will use this and my 24mm GM as my primary lenses for travel. I’ll finish unpacking the camera tomorrow and take advantage of Mark Gaylers EBook. I don’t shoot events, nor do much other than single shot, so I suspect that one battery will last multiple days. I’ll look forward to seeing your A7Rvi images.
I got 30 minutes this evening with mine and the 600GM + 2x Teleconverter. I'm really impressed. Really, really impressed. The AF is fast and sticky and for perched birds slightly better. Still has the Sony weakness of needing to use a smaller zone to get it to rapidly find and lock on a bird. Not sure why they keep letting that linger when it seems like a good AI model update would address it. That said, I'm so used to how I shoot now to compensate that I don't think about it much. I programmed most things to match how I have my A1II's set up, but I do miss that upper left dial.
The files are gorgeous, high-ISO noise is impressive and cleans up really nicely with LR's AI DeNoise. AWB seems to be greatly improved, even better than my A1II's/A9III, which have been really good. The IBIS is great, I was shooting 1/500s handheld at 1200mm and getting tons of crispy shots, which is harder at that high pixel density. For my perched bird photography this thing will be killer, good enough to leave my A1II's behind if I don't plan on BIF work.
My one quibble is the VF has a bit of lag when on high resolution. I can't be the only one who's noticed this?

When I first was setting up the camera I noticed a weird viewfinder lag at one point, but after customizing some EVF and other settings in the menu the lag disappeared.
