It sucks for sure. I've been bitching about the lack of camera matching profiles every chance I get. Considering the A7V is coming up on it's 1 year anniversary, I am not very hopeful we will get it any time soon. I would very much like to use the compressed file variants in light room as well.
Wonder if that will still be the case when the A1 mk3 or A9 mk4 inevitably comes out. That would be a real shame.

Counterpoint: fast and accurate focus has been available for years across all cameras and models, unless you're a niche photographer, like a birder. Meanwhile, RAW editing is far less laborous when you have a high-quality profile as a starting point. In my case, while the A7RV came with camera-matching DCP profiles, they weren't as good as Sony's own. Switching to the A1 II made RAW editing noticeably less laborous for me, because its DCP profiles are were better. I am puzzled by nobody talking about this.
I will also add, hoping not to offend, but judging by the uploaded images, very few RAW shooters actually have the skills to "make anything look like anything", so a high quality color profile should be in high demand. ...Show more →
My .02: If you need really great, accurate color, pretty much Adobe's profiles suck. I always found C1's base profiles outstanding. It's one, probably the main reason I hung in there with their subscription for as long as did. Today, color isn't as important to me, so I live with Adobe, shoot raw and tweak by eye as I feel motivated. Hopefully they get Sony's profiles added sooner than later and then I will compare and make a decision. But yeah, nice color is one aspect of C1 I definitely miss.
I'm using DxO Photolab and there are many camera profiles to choose from, Often I use Hasselblads profile in DxO and that one is good for my starting point.
But as everthing else.... you have to use whatever suits your needs.
If you are on a payroll for photographing stuff that may be another thing

All my lenses worked before the firmware update. Now they all work as manual focus lenses no matter what settings or modes. I’m in the process of sending it in for repair.
UGH. That totally sucks. Sorry to hear. I'm interested to hear how the repair process and timeline works out for you.
I finished my last shot of the season yesterday, gathering the paperwork and figure out the process for my repair now.
Edit: I went onto Sony's product support page and went the chat route. They emailed me a pre-paid 2 day shipping label. Going to precision camera in CT.... which I've read both good and bad about. Fingers crossed.

That’s a bummer! Are you certain: 1) you installed the proper FW, and/or 2) you let it run completely without shutting down the camera? It took a little over a minute with the FW on a CFx card for me.

Whatever floats your boat. I’d personally swap software in a nanosecond before I’d abandon an outstanding camera system, but that’s me. 🤷🏼
I am as of April when I gave up my C1 subscription. If I was as dissatisfied with the Adobe color as you are, I’d re-start C1 right now. But as it is, I find it “fine.” Not great, but okay.

Swap for what? AFAIK, the menu of RAW converters has been shrinking every year. I am not aware of RAW editors in the same league as the Adobe ecosystem. C1 used to be competitive, but they just couldn't match Adobe's product velocity and are now years behind. Coincidentally, my C1 subscription ended today and I'm not renewing.
To be clear: I am not happy about this at all, I am already feeling like an Adobe hostage: they're preventing me from buying the A7RVI. This is why I asked: how the hell you're all enjoying the camera if your starting point is Adobe color?

The issue is color. C1 still does great color. And I agree that Adobe color is lacking. Regardless, to toss a camera because the software you feel stuck using is lacking on color seems almost ludicrous to me, and I’d find another solution. But whatever, you do you.

Yes and yes and the camera also indicates the new version number. As in everything works except for focusing. If I manually focus it still takes great photos iin any mode. If i don’t bother it takes burry photos. Like t he AF actuators are off but everything else is perfect.
Yes. I used and ipad connected to the camera. Downloaded the sony file, moved it to the root dir of slot 1 and all acted exactly as it should. And the camera says that it is at version 1.0.2.

I don't care so much about color with Sony. I could not get the a7rV to be that great, but for wildfiles it doesn't matter. What I need is good NR with granular controls. I don't read that C1 is better at NR or even as good as DXO DP3 and DP3XD at high ISOs like 10,000 or more.
I don't have that much Sony stuff. It seems there are actually more camera choices than good software choices lately.
I'm less concerned about the a7rVI than lack of support for future a1 III, etc. For example I decided to cancel the pre-order of the 600/6.3.
It sucks to be so limited by software. Prior to the 2020s the basic NR functions were adequate because I used 2x MP FF cameras for high ISO, and not nearly as high ISO as today with MILCs.
Long term existence of software is a whole other model to be concerned about since I am far behind in image processing. I just assumed to always be able to process older images the same way at any time. That's not true now with NR and processing constantly changing.

Good luck! I am curious to see what Precision will do in your case.

What profiles do you use with your a1 II and a7R V? Camera ST for the a7R V and the equivalent for the a1 II?
