Personally, I think Nikon kicks out new lenses rather than refreshers. The current 14-24 is fine and is not in need of a refresher. It's not going to get sharper, and it's already sharper, lighter than the 14-24 G. There are still some primes, tilt shifts, and zooms people are waiting on. I'm sure Nikon kicks out something like the 28-70 F2 or 50-150 F2. Many here still wanting a 70-200 F4. Others mentioned a 28mm 1.2, 14mm 1.8, 105mm 1.4 replacement.
The lens I would really like to see next is the 100-400, ideally extended to 100-500. The logical next is of course the 14-24 but AF is not so important on this lens. If they wanted to make a new high-end WA lens and get folk upgrading from their Mk1's, make it a 14-35 or 12-30 etc. Surely that is feasible.
As a release day owner of the 100-400, I can say it's STILL the best 100-400 available, but there is plenty of room for improvement. It's the lens I'd love to see these tweaks applied to the most right now. If they can also improve the IQ a bit, it'll be even better with the 1.4x on than it is now.
I would also love to see a tiny 70-200/4 macro to compete with the excellent Sony option.
The 100-400 could do with an update, but its priced how it performs. Quite slow AF, even when compared to the Plena. IQ was less that of a 70-200 II TC

If you went outside and took photos as much as you pine for a new 24-120, you'd have QUITE the gallery!
What does it mean - "pine for"?
I know Scott you love your 24-120 on Zf and you think its fine size and weight wise, but for many peeps out there its too big and heavy. However, like I mentioned before, I will try it out, I'll get one later this year.
I do have tousands of photos in my gallery, I'm not a pro photographer, only have my family and travel photos, but still, quite a pile
EDIT:
"Pine for" is a phrasal verb meaning to feel a intense longing, yearning, or deep sadness for someone or something that is absent or lost.
So yes, I do pine for a smaller and lighter 24-120 lens, 630g is quite heavy for all Z apart from Z8/9, especially for Zf, which I have. If it was 500g, it would be perfect, for me like max weight on Zf.
I‘d be quite interested in a 24-120mm II if it was 10% smaller and lighter than the current one. Ideally with 72mm filters as that’s what most of my nice filters are 😅

For my interests a 200mm macro with S type amenities and 1:1 capability would be a great addition.
Douglas.
This. Although the updated AF speed when doing bug close-ups probably isn’t that vital, as at least based on my experience, mostly I’d be shooting with manual focus.

I think it might be useful for automated focus stacking, to get extra DOF in post processing. That's something at the top of my "to try soon" list to capture large flowers up close where DOF is just too thin for single photos.
