For professional photo and video workflows, the M3 Max is actually the stronger performer here.
While the M5 Pro has newer CPU cores, the M3 Max features a much larger 30-core GPU and higher memory bandwidth, which are the primary drivers for 4K/8K rendering and color grading. Additionally, this machine has 36GB of RAM; the M5 Pro often starts at 24GB, and the extra memory is critical for preventing lag in Premiere, Resolve, or Lightroom.
