Actually, the latest Squarehood square hood is a one piece metal screw on hood with the screws installed to be tightened when the hood is in position. A 39mm filter fits inside the hood. It also has a hard plastic snap on cover. I'm eager to get my replacement and give it a try.
The Haoge hood that @swldstn@ linked above (post 17) is a screw on type for the 23/27 f2.8 lenses and it seems to align horizontally, as shown in their video. And it allows you to change filters by screwing off the hood, a better design than Squarehood with the tiny screws imho.
Yeah, but I'm referring to the style that you posted and had in your image. Flatter depth, easier to remove, regular cap use.

Does Haoge make a “flared” hood style for the XF 23/27 f/2.8 pancake lenses? If so do you know the model number? I’ve used a few with this style in the past. Always debate which style to go with.
Several of you have mentioned the small round OEM hood that comes with the 23 mm pancake lens and I wonder why so many of you want to find a substitute. The third party hoods are larger, which defeats the size advantage of the small OEM hood. I've also installed a clear filter so the lens is protected from dirt and the small hood protects it from an impact, yet the setup is small and makes sense for a pancake lens.

I don’t have the 23mm f/2.8, but I use the 27mm f/2.8 which uses the same (or similar?) round hood.
The tiny hoot is part of what I like about the lens. I don’t need a larger square (ahem, rectangular) hood for this little lens, and I don’t see the advantage of making the package larger.
I feel different about some of the other lenses, like my 23mm f/1.4*, where the Fujifilm options are a pretty large “petal” hood or the rectangular metal hood. I also like the rectangular hood on the 35mm f/1.4 — it is pretty small for an f/1.4 lens.
YMMV.

* Oops. I originally identified this as a “f/2.8” lens. It is actually a f/1.4 lens.
I like the look of the rectangular lens hoods and have them on several of my Fuji lenses. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks on my 23/2.8 as the tiny round hood looks great and keeps the lens small. My replacement hood is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I will know then.

I've come to prefer the small Round OEM hoods too.
My replacement Squarehood square hood for my Fuji 23/2.8 came today. It is now mounted and I really like it. Yes, it is bigger than the small OEM round shade, but it gives the camera/lens a great look, I think. I'm glad I got this accessory.

Oh my, looks like I need to clean my UV filter!
Lots of people that use a hood exactly like this on some lenses say they use NO lens cap at all. Seems like a good percentage of those use a clear/UV filter on the end , inside the hood if it fits.
But that seems to be because they all seem to come with a slide over, friction type cap, or some silicone do-hickey. Both of those get lost, fall off, etc etc... so they claim they use no cap. But with the actual SquareHood brand, don't they supply a pinch cap that actually stays on the end of the hood?
Because if so, not sure why anyone would use a UV filter. Dirty or not

The Squarehood square hood is sent with a nice hard plastic snap-on cap. I have a UV filter on all of my lenses. However, I won't use a lens cap..
I am a fan of the Squarehoods. Thomas is a great Guy, replies quickly and is helpful. Yes, his products are expensive, but it is what it is. The Haoge/JCL products are a bit cheaper, but also feel not as good as Squarehood products.
