Some portraits I took recently in downtown Portland.
Kevin is someone I have followed on social media for a couple years but we never met or communicated with each other before this week. A few days ago I sent a message and asked if he'd let me take a few portraits of him, which he was happy to oblige. I told him to wear what he wants and just be himself for the camera.
Canon 5D MKIII, 85mm, lit using available light.

Well done brother!

Thanks Dan! I'm trying a new approach with my portraits in order to get a more realistic final image. Less polish, and more emphasis on the personality of the subject of the shot.

I think with a window shot like that positioning and timing everything just right to nail the balance between reflections, glare, signage, and seeing inside is such a delicate balance. For me the color one his face is just a little too obstructed by the neon for it totally work for me, but the black and white one strikes the balance perfectly. (at least that's my taste; I could see someone arguing the opposite because your eye isn't drawn away from the 'real' subject to his reflection as much in the color one)
