I took possession of a silver one that I have posted for sale. For B&W I am going to stay with my Nokton 35mm classic. Tiny little lens with really good build quality.

Word of caution for those who do not know what they are getting into - this is not a sharp lens. It is a weird lens. Wide open it is pretty unusable for generic photography. Wide open, you have to put your subject right in the center of the frame, or you will not get it in focus at all. I pretty much never do that, so this lens was a shock. I will play with it for a bit, but it will be looking for a new home soon. Watch the video above for an explanation.
I just tried to shoot dead center vertically, and crop to 3/4 frame from top. This places face that was in the center into the right spot, so this is a bit more usable for me this way. Jury is out on a bokeh. It is a mess, not sure I like it.

Here, the video's face comparison at 2:13 should give pause to this one being used for people work. The high frequency data overpowers the face with an etched overlay. It's a frequency imbalance essentially, so it may not suit portraiture if that matters to users in such a lens.
The extended DOF robs the image of depth and natural roll-off; and near-moire of the collar does not help. The right side image is much more settled and natural.
Character lenses, by their nature, are not often amenable to the kind of analysis the presenter does here - they are more purely about the overall appeal of the picture, not the finer points of field curvature etc.
As always, the optical blend is the key to success, within the scope of the user's intentions, of course. The hipster presenter appears unreliable, and he is clearly an enthusiastic self-promoter.

It was inevitable that this lens will reach cammackey, and the video explains a thing or two about this lens -
@7:24 is what you need to know
But seriously, if Cam thinks field curvature is where it is at for cheat codes, he needs to use the Brightin Star 28mm lens.
With that lens, the field curvature has field curvature.

He did fall in love with the LLL Z21 that bends everything into oblivion(which I quite like too but what a difficult lens it is) so theres that.
Thank you for posting this! That is legitimately the most useful review of this lens that I have seen. I own it as of recently and everything written there rings true. I feel like it has definitely been overhyped but for the price will make some people happy.
