With black and white negative scans can't you just invert the file in Lightroom using a preset that inverts the tone curve? This is fast, simple, and you have only one file with all the native dng format advantages.
The short answer is yes. NLP came out with a B&W conversion element to their negative conversion plugin and while I was initially skeptical, I think there's some value to be had letting somebody else' algorithm convert it rather than just inverting the file.

Yesterday I traveled to Milan to turn it my Leica IIIf for a CLA and new shutter fabric installed. I found a real treasure for us Leica users in a store called Foto Ottica Cavour, Milan. (website: https://fotootticacavour.com/) This store is absolutely amazing. The owner is one of Italy's longest running and largest Leica dealers and Boutiques. You can buy anything Leica, Hassy, or other brands. But the real treasure is the immense personal collection of Leicas including many historical things you would only expect to find in a museum. Think some of the multi million dollar stuff seen in recent auctions. Equally impressive is the collection of used Leica bodies, lenses, and accessories available for sale. Want a screw mount Leica, body, lens, accessory? There are literally hundreds in inventory ready for immediate delivery, in almost every finish and permutation ever offered. Same with M mount stuff. Most is in amazingly pristine condition, and all with at least a one year warranty. Prices also surprisingly reasonable. I was able to flush out my Leica IIIf lens and accessory kit at prices I could match on-line. Turn around time on my CLA/Repairs is estimated at only one week, Including tear down and cleaning of my 50mm collapsible lens and elements. I was shocked to find such a resource so close to me. The website only lists a few items. To really get to know what they have you need to visit and get invited into the back room gallery of Leica Vintage. Deep knowledge also available a freely given. Once again Northern Italy surprises me with what a great location it is for a Leica shooter like me.
Below is a test image using my new 72 year old Leica ERnst Leitz 35cm 1:35 Summaron adapted to my M11. I shot it at the the Leica store Milan after buying it at Foto Ottica Cavour. Amazing that a lens this old, can look as good as it does, operate as smoothly as it does, and produce such nice images on a 60mpx digital camera. I am looking forward to seeing how it renders on my Leica IIIf when I get it back.
