p.1 #1 · Snow Geese Get-up

Spent the weekend in the Skagit Valley north of Seattle. Mainly went for the Snow Geese and they did not disappoint. These types of images lean toward the iconic so I thought a conversion to monochrome might work. Judge for yourself.

can you explain your reasoning of converting this to B&W a bit more?

"lean toward the iconic" ??

I like the monochrome treatment very much here, it lets you focus on the image as a whole and see the flight patterns, etc. Nice work!

The Canadian geese, regular type, have been heading North from Maryland the last week or so.

I can hear and see hundreds of them in numerous formations during the day and hear them honking at night. My farming neighbors have ponds and they are filled with geese resting then off to the North country they go!

Great capture Mike!

Nice work with a classic view with Mt. Baker in the background. You might want to back off on sharpening a bit to reduce halos around the birds - esp. visible in the sky above the mountain. I find that is more of a problem in my B&W conversio than color versions of the same shot.

Sure. This type of image is quite common or you might say “iconic”.😉

I looked at the overall tones. Lots of B & W in the birds and the white mountain background. I also think the the conversion amplifies the chaos of the many birds in flight.

Thanks for looking and your question. Mike

I find this an impressive image and a most impressive B&W my friend, nice call on processing and presentation!

I was counting the birds, what did you come up with
I am a big fan of this image, hope you post it in the B&W forum as well
