The Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art is a large-aperture medium-telephoto lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. With the latest optical design, the lens delivers exceptional resolution even at maximum aperture, enabling striking portrait photography with the distinctive depth of field unique to F1.2.
Featuring a compact, lightweight design and fast, precise autofocus driven by dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system, the lens offers reliable performance for professional applications.
With the addition of this lens, Sigma's lineup of F1.2 prime lenses is now complete, joining the Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG II | Art and Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art.
The Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art will be exhibited at the Sigma booth at CP+ 2026, held from February 26 to March 1, 2026.

Really welcome this from Sigma and its a lens that is needed on E mount, it also ironically makes me more hopeful that Sony will release a GM equivalent someday (hopefully this year 🙏

I don't know about Sony releasing a GM equivalent. Sigma has had a 35 f/1.2 for Sony E mount for a long time and Sony hasn't made an equivalent. Sigma has a bunch of lenses for Sony now for which Sony does not have an equivalent including that 35 f/1.2, a 135 f/1.4, a 200 f/2, a 500 f/5.6, and now this 85 f/1.2. I am not sure which if any of those lenses Sony will make an equivalent. These are some really great lenses. It is a bit of a shame that all of them have some limitations (15 fps max, no TCs, and no breathing compensation for video) but despite these limitations they are compelling options.

Sony has focused on its 16mm G, 28-70mm f2, 50-150mm f2, possibly its upcoming f2 wide angle zoom,
100-400 G and 100-400 f4 GM. Sony also made the RX1RIII, FX2 and A7V bodies. They have been very busy in recent times. Steve Spencer wrote:

I'm curious to see how this lens turns out. I'm a big fan of the rendering of version 1 of the Sony GM lens. I'm not willing to let that go unless I can get similar rendering in a different lens.

Linear motors and hamstrung by Sony software, fantastic
Sony would be really smart to make Sigma some sort of "official partner" and let their lenses operate as native if they aren't going to make the focal length/speed combos that Sigma does.

If it's as good as the Sony 85 1.4 II, it'll sell well, and I absolutely want it. Going to depend how good the AF is, but I cant imagine it not being at least as good as the their 85 DN 1.4, and hopefully on par with the Sony, if not faster, but I kind of doubt it.
No one has made a fast focusing 85 1.2, let alone a fast 85 1.4. I like using 85 for court side and rink side shots.
I'm a litttttle annoyed that it's still so far away (September). I could have used it all summer long for senior portraits!

I love my current Sigma 85/1.4, absolutely my favorite lens, so I am definitely interested to see how this does but I kinda doubt I'll need to switch, If the 1.4 had any fault is that it can AF hunt a bit, but I would not say it really limits me in anyway. Maybe one day in the far future when this also gets on the used market I'll look for an upgrade...

They won't do it. They needed Sigma when they launched the E-mount, but now Sigma is just a licensee (as contrasted with Viltrox, who is not a licensee).

I know, Sony execs don't have much business sense when it comes to stuff like this. It's even better as an F U to Nikon who doesn't even get Sigma lenses.

Even as a self admitted OEM lens snob I have become a huge fan of the Sigma Art lenses. This is THE lens I have been waiting on since switching to Sony four years ago. Bought time!!!

Finally, someone is making it! Now I wonder if Viltrox gets a 85/1.2 LAB at about the same time. Because I'm very happy with the Viltrox 35/1.2 LAB. But anyway, these are good news!
