Hi Everyone,
Thought I would post that B&H has some amazing sales on Gitzo products - some of this is cheaper than some of the Benro/Manfrotto stuff and better then most used prices.. All of it is available until 02/12/2026.

Anyone find any other worthwhile photo gear in the Megadeals?
I basically check every day at midnight to see what is on for the day.
My soft spot is bags and hard cases. A few times a year B&H seems to have Nanuk cases on sale for great prices and better than buying direct from Nanuk here in Canada. Those also occasionally appear in the daily mega deals. I also grabbed a Tenba Roadie backpack at a great price via the mega deal offers a while back, around 40% off. Every so often there are serious discounts on interesting items, which is why I keep checking...
Yeah, I just noticed it's one of their 3-day mega deal zone promos. The Nanuk prices are pretty good. In line with the best discounts of previous years. Particularly the 'photo' cases with dividers and lid organizers. There are also some good Pelican deals, particularly on their Air cases. Kind of eyeing the 1615 Air with Trekpak. I already have the Nanuk 963 which is slightly larger, but heavier, and found I didn't really like it as much as I thought, in part because once loaded with lighting gear, it was very heavy and difficult to put in the car, bring up flights of stairs, etc. So a bit unsure about the 1615...

Thanks for pointing this out, I'd just looked at memory card prices when it first got the email, didn't see what I was looking for so tossed it.
I just got a GT3543XL, I have the previous version of this as my standard working tripod. but it is just starting to show it's age a bit, but it will be fine in a backup role. No tripod on the market offers the height, stability and capacity at this low weight. It really is the most complete landscape tripod. I just got a Leofoto G6 geared head that will go perfectly on it.

Unfortunately SSDs are now seeing enormous price spikes similar to the recent RAM spikes. Drives are often double the price they were just two months ago. Only some specific models are still at reasonable prices.
The external Samsung T7 2TB drive I bought in December for $170 is now $340. 4TB Samsung and WD NVME drives are between $750-900.

Yeah it's crazy. A year ago I built a new desktop to replace my aging 2019 desktop. It was a little sooner than I planning to upgrade but I was worried about the effect of tariffs on future component prices. Didn't know I needed to be worried about AI demand affecting prices.

FYI that 2tb T7 in three days went from 289 to 399 to 399 but w/ $200 off in cart. I finally bought yesterday am when I saw the $200 off in cart. crazy times.

I suspect the same. Only thing that stopped me from buying a monopod is that o bought the 4542 already a few months back used (and paid more for it too).
The 3543XLS I would love for landscape but the shooting opportunities to use one are still few enough and far enough between that I won’t part withe money. It is absolutely the tripod I would like to use for 3-4 decades though.

I already have too many Gitzo tripods, but I did nab a Sachtler Flowtech 75 with the aktiv8 head.
I have only 2 Gitzos, both older models working great for 15+ years. My 3530LS has a bunch of stuff on it, 75mm bowl with RRS leveling long handle and lever QR plate so I can use 4-5 different heads. It will probably outlive me. The other one is GT2531, but I replaced the central column with the Merkins Hub. It was never the most stable with the column and I kept smashing the fingers.
I'm thinking on the 2 series traveler which would be a lot shorter packed. Do you know that tripod? Will it be good enough for a 100-500 with the IS on? Seems like half pric is quite good. A kit with monopod and some kind of funky Gitzoid head is about a hundred more. I don't know if those extras are good but seem like a good value add-on.

I would recommend against the traveller tripod for the 100-500 -- it is just to wobbly in my opinion. Plus the ergos in my view are not that great. If you really want a great travel tripod that is easy to carry and is sturdy as hell - I would seriously consider the new Peak Design Pro Tripod. I have been using a Z8 + 100-400 F5.6 with the teleconverter with no problem. Perfect compromise between rigidity and travel capabilities. The ball head is amazing - it can level without raising and has a built in fluid motion. You can even get a proper leveling base for $100 for it. And swapping it in/out is super easy. The only caveat is that you need to check that all your plates / L brackets will work with it. My RRS, Kirk, plates/brackets/lens feet work great - but my sirui plates are too skinny to lock properly. So you should try that out.
I know its double the current discount price of the Gitzo but - the Gitzo is way too fidly, not secure enough and the ball head is super annoying. It was a great design when it came out but it just has too many compromises today.
I use the Gitzo 3543XLS and the Peak Design Pro as my two tripod set up and am super happy. Just a thought - Again the price is higher but - buy once / cry once

Thanks. I was just thinking since it was a good deal. I don't really need yet another tripod. Perhaps I could just get the sticks if the head is not so good. I have a Merkins Q3T head that probably will fit it.
I'm just tall enough that I don't need the XLS of the 3 series and the LS is enough, but that setup is large with leveling base, BH-55 and sometimes the Sidekick for vertical pans. The PD woud be something to buy if I had a specifc travel need.
